Homemade Arepas

Arepas are a South American staple that are easy to make and even easier to enjoy! There are

many different ways to create these such as baking, boiling, and frying. Any way you decide to

make these will leave them fluffy on the inside with a crunchy outside. These delicious homemade

pockets are perfect for any time of day! They can be altered to fit any meal or snack time with

sweet or savory fillings. So, follow these simple ingredients and steps to make the perfect snack

or side to round out your day!

Ingredients

● 2 ½ cups lukewarm water

● 1 tsp salt

● 2 cups pre-cooked white cornmeal

● ¼ cup vegetable oil


Directions

● Combine water and salt together in a mixing bowl. Slowly mix in cornmeal with your

fingers until a soft, moist dough forms.

● Divide dough into 8 balls and shape each into a patty about ⅜-inch thick.

● Over medium heat, begin to heat oil in a pan until simmering. Cook patties in the oil for

about 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown. Transfer patties to a towel-lined plate to cool.

● Once cooled, slice halfway through each cake horizontally to form a pocket.
